December 31, 1929 - December 28, 2021
Geraldine Fuller Boyd was born December 31, 1929, in Mineral Wells, Texas, the daughter of Lee and Minnie Fuller. She passed on to her Heavenly reward on December 28, 2021. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Minnie Jackson Fuller, and her brothers, M. J. Fuller, Leonard Fuller, and Clyde Fuller. She is survived by her son, Marcus Daunis, and his children, Heather, Matt and Joseph, and by son, Don Daunis, his wife, Sherri, and their children, Catherine Robbins and Zachary Daunis, as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Geraldine graduated from Brownwood High School in 1947 and received a B.S. in mathematics from Howard Payne University in 1950. She earned a Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1961. In 1967, she earned her PhD in mathematics from Texas Christian University, and was admitted to the American Mathematical Association. Gerry was a dynamic individual who inspired her students to achieve great things. She did pretty good for a little girl that could not speak plainly or do any math at the start of second grade. Geraldine taught math in various public schools, as well as The University of Texas at Arlington, before coming to Baylor University in 1968 where she taught for many years. In the early 80's, she returned to Howard Payne University where she became a full-time professor, and was soon promoted to chairman of the Mathematics Dept., and finally to Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences where she remained until her retirement. Gerry leaves behind a legacy through her countless students who have gone on to become teachers, professors, doctors, engineers, attorneys, just to mention a few. She and her family still hear from her former students, many of whom have written to express their gratitude for their time with her. One meaningful quote included the following: "Dr. Boyd was tough and it helped me as a student because her review was simply, 'you better know it all' so I did in her classes, due to wanting to meet her expectations. As a Christian math teacher, she always gave our God the glory for the wonderful world of mathematics, and the way the universe works. She will be missed by many, and I am one of the many!" Geraldine enjoyed spending time with her family that she fiercely loved, ranching, sewing & quilting, hunting, gardening and canning/freezing fruits and vegetables, refinishing & reupholstering furniture, and helping her grandchildren with school. She was an active Democrat, serving both as an election judge and convention delegate. She was also an active member at First Baptist Brownwood, and a delegate in the Southern Baptist Association. Gerry loved attending Brownwood High School and HPU football games. Per Geraldine's wishes, there will be a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers/plants, the family asks that donations be made to New Horizons Ranch near Brownwood, which was dear to Gerry's heart. She was not only a supporter, but she enjoyed her hours visiting with the foster children at the ranch.
