Guadalupe Silva Cantu

October 29, 1931 - May 12, 2022

Guadalupe Silva Cantu, 90, of Pleasanton, Texas, formerly of Brownwood, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022. A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM with a Rosary from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel Monday, May 16, 2022. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Deacon John Specht officiating. Guadalupe was born October 29, 1931, in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico, to Jesus Vega and Josefa Bocanegra Silva. She attended school in Villa Union and met the love of her life, Jose Cantu. They were married in Villa Union and had their first child, Joe Cantu while there. Guadalupe had no idea that her life with Jose would be filled with wonderful children, travel and all kinds of new experiences. They moved to a ranch in Comstock, Texas where Jose worked and Guadalupe had baby #2, Hector Cantu in Del Rio. Jose and Guadalupe then moved to Five Points, California where Jose went to work in the cherry and strawberry fields and the couple had baby #3, Grace. California didn't fit them so they moved to Big Lake, Texas where Jose worked on a ranch again and the couple had baby #4, Rosa. While living in Ozona, Jose and Guadalupe with children in tow would travel to Minnesota and Wisconsin when the season was in turn to work in the fields on sugar beets and pick cucumbers. Guadalupe worked in the fields with Jose and the children. They traveled many times for this and made great memories with family. Throughout their travels, Guadalupe was a homemaker. She always had cooked meals for Jose and the family while taking care of the household. She found time to grow a garden of her own at every place she lived. She grew vegetables for the dinner table and flowers and plants for their beauty. Guadalupe had learned the value of medicinal plants and flowers for natural healing and she grew the things she needed to keep her family and her healthy. She worked with Jose when she could. Jose and Guadalupe moved to Brownwood where they settled down for about 30 years and made a home. Guadalupe had an art for crochet, quilting and embroidery. She loved to make the grandchildren homemade grandma gifts. Guadalupe loved her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren as their family grew. Guadalupe is survived by her sons, Joe L. Cantu and wife Sylvia of San Antonio, Hector Cantu and wife Rebecca of San Angelo; daughters, Grace Maldonado and husband Pete of Jourdanton, Texas, and Rosa Cantu of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Guadalupe is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Arizpe Cantu; grandson, Christian Ray Martinez; and great-great-grandson, Hayze Tyler Maldonado.
