Woody Ormsby Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kyle Odell "Woody" Ormsby, 94, of Comanche, passed on to his reward, Monday June 6, 2022. Woody was born on February 10, 1928, in Fort Worth, Texas to Velma Odell Ormsby, and Jerome Aires Ormsby. Woody lost his mom when he was only 9 years old, and after her passing was raised by his maternal grandmother, Lizzie Cox Odell, the widow of William David Odell. He married Martha Sue Parker on August 31, 1946. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2008. A graduate of Comanche High School, he was a long-time printer at The Comanche Chief, retiring after 75 years of dedicated service. He was an ardent supporter of Comanche schools, and an avid Indian and Maiden fan, hardly ever missing a game. He was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame Class of 2010. In 2008 he was presented the Cornerstone Award by the Comanche Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. He was renowned in University Interscholastic League circles for his loyal attendance of the women's State Basketball Tournament, only missing one tournament from its inception until it was relocated away from Austin. Woody is remembered by his daughters, Pam Dickson, Carol Farley, and Nancy Abbey and husband Jim, grandchildren: Angie Dickson, Jennifer Dickson, Brandy Hickmon and husband Zac, Britni Huggins and husband Adam, Courtni Jordan and husband Cody, Taylor Abbey and wife Amanda, and Emily Posey and husband Daniel, and twelve great-grandchildren; Daylon and Alicity Hickman, Lance, Luke, and Logan Jordan, Crew and Kylee Huggins, Madeline and Oliver Abbey, Fiona, Eloise, and Milo Posey; sister, Geraldine Cottrell; brother, Larry Ormsby. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sue Parker Ormsby, an infant daughter, Janet Beth Ormsby, a son, Robert Kyle Ormsby, and a son-in-law, Angus 'Dicky' Dickson, III.
