Maria de Jesus Contreras, 72, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022. A visitation with the family is planned for Friday, February 4, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Greenleaf cemetery officiated by Jesse Martinez. Maria was born in Crystal City, Texas to Abraham and Paula Mendoza on January 26, 1950. She graduated high school in Mexico and married Juan Contreras and they were blessed with four children. Maria was a homemaker and raised her children in Brownwood. Maria liked to get up early and go shop the garage sales and then she would spend the rest of the day just shopping. She loved spending time with her grandkids and kids, her life was all about them. Maria is survived by her daughter, Cyntia Contreras of Fort Worth; sons, Enrique Contreras and wife Ana of Arlington, Juan Contreras Jr. & Homero Contreras of Fort Worth; grandkids, Avery, Emily, Idalie, Allysson and Andres; brothers, Victor and Rafael Mendoza of Brownwood, Adolfo Mendoza of Stephenville; sisters, Sylvia Martinez of Brownwood and Sandra Leal of Brownwood; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Juan Contreras, her parents, one brother and one sister.
