Mary Perkins

October 20, 1949 - March 14, 2021

Mary Irene Perkins, 71, of De Leon, TX, passed from this life, Sunday, March 14, 2021. Mary Irene Smith was born October 20, 1949, in San Angelo, TX, to Benjamin Franklin and Dorothy (Dodd) Smith. She married the love of her life, Johnny Perkins, Sr., on November 5, 1966 in Hasse, TX. Together they raised two sons; Johnny, Jr. and James. She spent her days as a homemaker caring for Johnny, the boys, and their home. Mary was a member of the Bride of Christ Church in Gorman where she was Secretary and Treasurer of the church. She enjoyed sharing her love for God and the word of God with those around her. She had something kind and caring to say about everyone she met. During her free time, Mary enjoyed going to garage sales and visiting flea markets. Mary never went to a garage sale or flea market where she didn't find a treasure. She enjoyed having her own garage sales and passing her treasures on to others. She never visited family or friends without bringing them one of her "treasures". Weather and her health permitting, she enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, hunting, and fishing with her husband. Quiet times at home gave her time to read her Bible, pray for loved ones (and strangers), listen to and sing her favorite hymnals. She loved her family, and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-children. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, Grandma Mary, and Great-grandma Mary. Mary was full of laughter, life, love, and smiles. She is very much loved, will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts. Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Johnny Perkins, Sr.; sons, Johnny Perkins, Jr. and wife April of DeLeon, Texas; James Perkins and wife Missi of Brookesmith, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Hayden Fenton and Shelby, Gage Fenton and Halie, and Savannah Fenton and Hagen; 4 great grandchildren, Haizley, Wrenley, Maya, and Ella all of Orange, Texas; sister, Diane Minnix and husband Remi of Montana along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by parents, Ben and Dorothy Smith, and brother, Larry Smith.
