Nancy Boyd Chapman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nancy Elden (Boyd) Chapman, 84, of Brownwood, formerly of Odessa and Big Lake, passed away Sunday, July 3rd, 2022 with her family by her side. Services will be held in San Angelo, Texas at a later date. Nancy Elden was the first-born child of Billy and Elden (Poage) Boyd of Stiles, Texas. She was born June 30, 1938, in San Angelo, Texas as that was the nearest hospital to the Boyd ranch. Nancy attended the 1st through 3rd grades in Stiles, along with Jerre Kay (Mills) Eschberger and Boze Hartgrove, Jr., as the only children in their grade. When the school closed following their 3rd grade, these families moved into the big town (Big Lake, Texas and these continued their public-school education in the Big Lake school system, graduating from Reagan County H.S. in May of 1956. Nancy first attended Stephens College in Missouri (a 2-year college at that time). Her dad said he sent her there to learn to be a lady, but all that happened was she wasted 2 years of her life and a lot of his money. She graduated from TCU in Fort Worth with a degree in Education. She began her 35-year career in education with the Midland I.S.D. and ended with the Odessa I.S.D., with stops in Killeen, Sanderson and Corpus Christi in between. She had a passion for her students, helping them both inside and outside the classroom. After her retirement, many of her former students maintained contact with her and would "drop by" just to visit a while. Nancy and Myrl Kenneth Chapman were married June 17, 1961. They raised two sons -- her pride and joy. Nancy was the "prototype" for a team mom. She attended every game, every event, volunteered, provided a "taxi service" for the boys' friends; whatever they needed, she provided. Nancy had many "loves" ... she loved her family, loved her students, loved her friends. She loved "going", it didn't matter where, she had a bag packed and was ready to go at any time. She especially loved spending time in Ruidoso, New Mexico. It didn't matter if she traveled with her siblings and families, with her Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority sisters, Classroom Teachers' Association members or with high school classmates, traveling satisfied a need in her soul. She loved gospel hymns, 50s music, REAL country music and The Gaithers. Nancy loved most all sports; but especially baseball, whether it was her own boys' Little League games, college (especially TCU and A&M) or the Texas Rangers, you could find her cheering from her recliner each Saturday afternoon during baseball season. Nancy loved to talk and eat, and nothing was better than attending "Nifty Fifties" where she could do both. Working, helping and assisting others were distinctive traits of Nancy's character. She spent her life as an obedient servant of the Lord and to others. She gave of herself freely and expected nothing in return. Our lives will be a little less content without Nancy, but we know she is in HER mansion in Heaven rejoicing with her Lord, Jesus Christ. Nancy is no longer suffering in pain and for that we Thank You, Jesus. Grandson: Douglas & Christi Wilson. Cousins, who are as close as siblings: Dick Hickerson (Alice) of College Station, Genevieve Holmes of Ennis, TX, Bud Poage (Nancy) of Rankin, TX, Billie Farr (Phil) of Saginaw, TX and Robin Bostic (LeRoy) of Carlsbad, NM, nieces, nephews and many life-long friends.
