Tommy Greer

February 12, 1940 - May 12, 2022

Tommy Greer, 82 of Zephyr, Texas died peacefully at home Thursday morning, May 12, 2022. Visitation with family will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the Heartland Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 16, 2022 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. Tommy was born February 12, 1940 to Fred and Grace Greer. He was one of 5 sons. He graduated from Zephyr High School in 1958. Tommy met the love of his life Deanna Straach at the Blanket Rodeo and married on May 27, 1961. He was known as a quiet, hardworking Christian man until the end. He started his first job at 13 years old at Waldrop Construction in Brownwood and bought his first 1941 Ford that year. He learned many of his mechanic skills working in Mullin for his uncle Harold Locke. He then worked as a mechanic for Marvin Fraiser for over 10 years in Brownwood, and worked for over 29 years at TxDot in Brownwood in the shop. Tommy was a Jack of all trades and spent all his free time farming at the homestead and for many local friends. He and Deanna moved back to the Zephyr homestead in 2003. You could always find him in his shop working on something, or better yet cooking. He made some mean biscuits and gravy. He enjoyed hosting for friends and family whether it be a large barbecue, a fish fry, or the traditional chili supper the first day of deer season. He spent all his free time on fishing trips, cook offs, and antique or tractor shows. He was a collector of many things and loved to display his treasures in his shop. Tommy loved his grandkids more than life itself and was always there willing to take a young'n. He was a genuinely devoted husband, taking care of his wife during her past months of declining health, and she was truly blessed to have him always by her side. He was a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Zephyr. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Grace (Fisher) Greer and brothers Fisher, Bill and Jimmy Greer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Deanna Greer, and two children Rhonda Greer Long of Brownwood, TX and Scott Greer of Zephyr, TX and wife Pamela Greer. Grandchildren Taylor Long and wife Jana, Landry, Lexi, and Layton Greer along with Great- Grandchildren Harrison and Landon Long and a brother, Sid Greer of Lampasas. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be truly missed by all his family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Zephyr Community Center, 2810 FM 1467 South, Zephyr, Texas 76890 or Zephyr Cemetery Association, PO Box 523 Zephyr 76890.
