Vernon B. Morse

March 12, 1928 - May 5, 2022

Vernon Bruce Morse died peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2022, of natural causes. Vernon was born in Copperas Cove, Texas on March 12, 1928, son of Joseph and Cecile Morse. After graduating high school in Copperas Cove, he joined the Navy in 1946 and was stationed in San Diego, California for the two years of his enlistment. Upon leaving the Navy he returned to Texas to attend Texas A&M University from 1948 to 1952 and graduated with a degree in Biology. Upon graduating from Texas A&M he joined the Soil Conservation Service in the Panhandle area of Texas. He met Norene Trueblood in Canadian, Texas and they were married on September 16, 1956. Two years later Vernon and Norene welcomed their first daughter, Laura Ellen, on September 13, 1958. Vernon began working for Texas Parks and Wildlife as the Biologist for the Gene Howe Wildlife Management Area in June, 1960 and his second daughter, Martha Ann, was born on June 13, 1960. Vernon was involved with the Boy Scouts, 4-H, Lipscomb Riding Club, Rotary International, and Band Boosters. He loved to garden, raise livestock, and bees. He enjoyed braiding leather into bridles and making other leather items. He built a two-room addition on the family home on Purcell Street in Canadian. Vernon also enjoyed listening to music and reading during his retirement. He and Norene moved to Austin, Texas in October, 1991 and were active in the Faith United Methodist Church. Vernon is survived by his daughter, Laura Ellen Morton and two grandsons, Alex Morton and Stephen Morton; his daughter, Ann Morse of Austin, Texas; and his sister, Louise Morse of Austin, Texas. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
